Duvraska Mendoza is a Venezuelan-born artist and writer whose work bridges cultures through bilingualism, exploring themes of grief, identity, immigration, and resilience. After more than two decades in finance, she immigrated to the United States as a single mother, facing the challenges of displacement, disability, and starting over. These experiences reignited her early passion for literature and art, leading her to earn an MFA in Creative Writing in Spanish from New York University.

Her creative practice is inspired by personal loss, cultural transition, and the healing power of storytelling and performance. She has been recognized as a finalist and audience choice award winner at NYU’s Threesis Academic Challenge and has exhibited works in Rhode Island and New Jersey. Through her art, Duvraska creates spaces for dialogue, connection, and hope, guided by her mantra: Vivimos para soñar, soñamos para vivir. Cada sueño es una esperanza.

MY LIFE PURPOSE

Guided by hope as my compass, I commit to growing continually—both as a human and as a mother. I dedicate myself to loving deeply, learning constantly, and nurturing compassion in every interaction. My mission is to leave the world kinder and more hopeful than I found it, inspiring healing, connection, and growth in my community and beyond.

"With hope as my compass, I strive to grow, love, and leave the world kinder than I found it."

Artist Statement

Art is healing

My creative work is shaped by who I am—a woman, mother, daughter, and immigrant—as well as by lived experiences of loss, resilience, and the ongoing navigation of identity in a world marked by trauma and grief. I see art as a vessel for regeneration—capable of healing individuals while inspiring collective action. Rooted in collaboration, diversity, and inclusion, my practice combines science and art to create spaces for reflection, healing, and dialogue. Through bilingualism, I bridge cultures, fostering conversations on grief, hope, migration, mental health, and the shared humanity that connects us all. Each piece becomes both a meditation on resilience and an homage to biodiversity—a call to preserve the intricate beauty of our planet while caring for ourselves. My work invites viewers to recognize our interconnectedness and to imagine a more unified, compassionate, and sustainable future.
